Looking for an ultrazoom camera.?

I’m asking this almost anywhere I can, because I really want to do some good research before i buy.

I’m looking to get a new ultrazoom, and preferably less than 0 (slighty higher is ok)
Most important to me would be great outdoor/(macro) image quality, and the ability to use filters.

Screen size is next important, since I’m not really used to using viewfinders, I’ll still use that while I get used to the finder. (lets say definitely no less than 2.5", which I’m sure won’t be too hard to do these days,) but of course I’d rather have a smaller screen with good detail rather than a huge, crappy one…

I also need it to be available in a store…so unless its an older camera that still happens to be sold in stores, please don’t mention it.

I have a few in mind, but would like some more info on them, mostly the filter situation because so far I’ve only been able to find that out for one of them. (review sites are ok, but don’t suggest dpreview.com because I’ve been there, and they don’t have any reviews on the ones I’m looking at, atleast not when I last checked last night)

In no order:
Sony cybershot dsc-
Canon powershot sx10
Nikon coolpix p80
Panasonic dmc-fz28
Fujifilm finepix s8100fd

I really need help with this.

    Reviews are nothing but opinions.

What you need to do is actually test them for yourself.

Take a SD memory card into a store that sells those cameras.

Test each of them at their longest and shortest zoom range, lowest and highest ISO settings to test for noise, shoot the closest you can and look at and test some of their features.

You can then take the SD card home and see which one performs the best as you look at them on your computers large monitor.

You will not be able to test the Sony … it will not use a SD card.

i like the sony cybershot dsc-w70 because it zooms really far and once zoomed, it clears up the picture so its not blurry. After taking the picture you can zoom in even more!

Fhotoace is right on both counts.
Reviews are nothing but opinions. AND I too recommend taking an SD card to a shop and shooting a few pictures with the cameras on your list (Sony excluded).

Now, filters are a different story. None of these cameras support filters.
A few support adapters you can attach to the camera, then you attach a filter to the adapter.
Problem with those is vignetting and you can’t really use your pop up flash as the adapter casts a shadow.

BTW, in my experience the Canon’s macro featue has been tack sharp.
I’ve also had a chance to work with the Nikon p80 and though it was an excellent camera. I’d never consider buying it though as it doesn’t offer a hotshoe.
